Launching into the Future

The Future of Launchers (Special Interest Group)

In 2026, I launched a special interest group for creative Instructional Designers to approach the craft with a business mindset. I had never led a SIG before, let alone ever attended one. I ran the 4 sessions like training sessions. In that way, this year has been a kickoff for the SIG, and it might grow into a community moving forward if there is interest.

What will the future hold for this learning community?
The immediate future will be a live in-person session in St. Louis, MO.

Next Session

This session of the SIG covers the Development stage of the Instructional Design Process. Since this is the first in-person event, we are also adding some of the previous Design Stage into the workshop. Promotion for the event is posted below.

Learning Objectives Identify basic design elements used in branding an L&D project, including color, shape, balance, repetition, contrast, and typography. Apply color theory and design principles to make a brand more readable, memorable, and visually appealing. Analyze examples of logos and brand designs to explain how different choices communicate identity, tone, and purpose. Create a physical Learning and Development brand concept prototype, including a name, catchphrase, logo, font style, and color palette.

Long Term Future

We have some real rock stars in the Learning Development space, here in Saint Louis, MO. Moving forward, we plan to move to more of a traditional SIG format and have guest presenters. The focus will remain on helping creatives in the educational space view choices through the business needs lens.

Jessica Mader has already proposed leading a session on tracking the impact of training, and there is a hope that interest will continue.
